Our plan today was to go to the automobile museum in the morning since it was only open from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Monday. The hotel charged 15Euro each for breakfast which was way too expensive for what we eat so Mike went out and found a Bar that had nice rolls and he got me a cappuccino and himself a tea from the restaurant downstairs.
It was cloudy but not raining when we headed out for the 20 minute walk to the Museo Dell'Automobile Di Torino. The museum has 30 rooms decorated with scenes using the cars on display as art with more than 160 original models from 80 different car companies.
One exhibit showed a Fiat on an underlit glass floor that had a map of Turin on it and showed the location of all the car factories that used to be there -- apparently Turin was the Detroit of Europe during its heyday.
It was raining a little when we left the museum but we pulled out our umbrellas and walked the short distance to the Lingotto Metro Station to take their new metro (finished in 2012) into the center of Turin to check out the Porta Sousa train station where our train would depart tomorrow for Lyon. We found the station and checked out where we needed to be for our trip tomorrow and had planned on walking around Central Turin to find a place for lunch, but when we got to the entrance we could see that it was raining so hard outside the rain was actually starting to cascade down the steps into the station. We decided to just take the Metro (which had an entrance inside the train station) back to our hotel and decide what to do for lunch when we got there.
The rain was letting up a little when we got back to the hotel, so we walked back to Eataly. We did not have our food dictionary and could not figure out most of the menus so just decided to get another good pizza from the pizza restaurant. After lunch we walked around Eataly some more and went downstairs to look at their massive wine and beer displays and bought a bottle of local Dolcetta wine to take back to the hotel. We relaxed and read some at the hotel before heading back to Eataly for dinner at the vegetable restaurant. Mike had an insalata mista with tuna and I had a potato frittata with two glasses of a nice Vermentino wine. We splashed our way back to the hotel trying to avoid the largest puddles to pack and get ready to leave for Lyon tomorrow.
